Gazette

Olu Yemisi, a dance teacher who has performed at events throughout the
county, said Dancing With The Stars has sparked the interest of many
people ready to polish their rusty dance moves.

I have seen a lot more people getting out there and dancing because of the
reality TV show, said Yemisi.

When people see individuals in Hollywood out there dancing, they say, I
want to try this because my favorite celebrity is doing it.

Yemisi, an accomplished choreographer and director of Olu Yemisi and
Company Dancers, performs Caribbean, Latin, Salsa and Rueda dance at
festivals and concerts across Maryland.

When Dancing With The Stars made its debut last year, Yemisi said she
was thrilled to see new pupils especially of the younger variety strap
on their dancing shoes.

You never used to get a lot of teenagers in class, she said. But a lot of
young people are getting into dancing. ... Shows like [Dancing With The
Stars] definitely influences them.

Even though some local dancers take comfort in the stars heavy feet and
limited range of shimmies and twirls, Yemisi said the true lesson lies in the
celebrities slow but steady progress.

They [the stars] have been able to progress with each lesson, she said.
That show proves that any time you set your mind to something, you can
get better. -Dennis Carter-Gazette 2006

"Never leave home without your black dance shoes because your black dance shoes got good news. Your black dance shoes will help you use your feet to dance in a lesson, a rehearsal, or a performance. Whatever you choose, don't leave home without your black dance shoes, and please don't loose your black dance shoes because you will have to move with or without your black dance shoes."-Olu Yemisi quote from "Teach Me A Dance Lesson"
